November 16, 2021—Many directors have gotten personally involved in the jewelry that appears in their films. Alfred Hitchcock encouraged Marlene Dietrich to wear her own impressive jewels in Stage Fright (1950). George Lucas carefully chose the pieces Carrie Fisher had on in the final scene of Star Wars (1977). Blake Lively has joined this illustrious list with her directorial debut.
The actress stepped behind the camera and gave jewelry a visual role in Taylor Swift’s new video “I Bet You Think About Me” (Taylor’s Version) which is part of Red (Taylor’s Version).
The entire production takes place during a wedding and most of the cast is all in white. Taylor stands out in apropos red outfits. In one section when she is cheekily taking a fistful of red velvet wedding cake, she has on Blake Lively’s heart ring.
Commissioned by Blake from Retrouvaí, the ring is part of the Heirloom collection from the beloved label designed by Kirsty Stone. It is set with a stunning 8-carat heart shape rubellite surrounded by 2.5 carats of round brilliant-cut diamonds set in yellow gold.
“I am so thrilled to see this bespoke ring in Blake’s directorial debut and collaboration with Taylor” says Kirsty. “Blake is a true jewelry lover and it was incredible to work with her to add another piece to her personal collection.”
“True jewelry lover” is right! The actress, who has never had a stylist, has a long history of working directly with jewelry designers.
During her Gossip Girl days, she went to Stephen Dweck among others to pick out her own jewels. Lately, she has been sporting some of the hottest names in the design arena. Besides Retrouvaí she has several jewels from Brent Neale and Marla Aaron. I saw her once during a jewelry press preview for Jacquie Aiche. She was just low-key sorting through the collection like everyone else. Blake is very good friends with the designer of her engagement ring, Lorraine Schwartz, and her sister Ofira.
A few days before Taylor’s video dropped, Blake showed off a couple of handfuls of her own rings including the Retrouvaí heart on Instagram. In the image she was at an event promoting her cocktail mixer Betty Buzz. In retrospect with the heart ring and the red dress, it also looks like she was giving us a little sneak peek of the video. Very clever.
Another personal piece to look for in the “I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version)” is the Cathy Waterman diamond and platinum “Red” ring. Taylor commissioned it from the designer. Find out about the jewel and the back story here. And watch the video to see all of it below.
