The Golden Globes have a reputation for being the Awards Show where anything can happen. True to character, at the event on Sunday night there were surprises from the stars who skipped the red carpet. There was also lots of small details that you may have missed with the excitement of all the major necklaces. Read on to find out all about it.
Beyoncé’s Diamond Earrings Lit Up The Room
If Beyoncé had walked the red carpet in advance of the Globes, it might have changed all those headlines about necklaces (including ours) into something about earrings. The star who was nominated for her Lion King song “Spirit,” came to the show fashionably late with Jay-Z and lit up the room with Lorraine Schwartz jewels. The up-the-ear climbers were set with gigantic round diamonds totaling a whopping 250-carats. She paired the jewels with a statement dress from Schiaparelli.
Michelle William’s Wore Her Pearl Engagement Ring
Right after Christmas, Michelle Williams revealed the news that she was pregnant and engaged to Thomas Kail, the Tony Award winning director of Hamilton and Fosse/Verdon. At the Globes, photographers captured her engagement ring (along with the gem-set Tiffany rings borrowed for the occasion). The engagement ring falls into the 2019 trend of celebrities wearing smallish engagement rings. It is a delicate pearl jewel. Her fingers covered up the sides so it was difficult to see any additional detail.
While pearls are not recommended by experts for engagement rings, because they are delicate and could easily be damaged with everyday wear, Williams is the second A-list star to receive a pearl engagement in the last couple of months. Around December 4, Emma Stone received a Kataoka pearl engagement ring her fiancé, Dave McCary purchased from Catbird in Brooklyn.
Nicole Kidman’s Evening Vintage Bag
It’s not too often that you see a celebrity sporting an evening bag on the red carpet, but Nicole Kidman carried hers for most photographs. One look at the vintage piece from Fred Leighton and it’s easy to understand why. The triangular shaped gold mesh stunner added another point of interest along with her sensational gold earrings by Hanut Singh to her red Versace gown. It was a veteran move that made Kidman’s head-to-toe pictures feel more composed and complex.
Sandra Bullock Takes The Hot #NeckMess Trend To The Red Carpet
The concept of layering chains, a look popularly referred to on social media as a #neckmess, made its way to the Golden Globes on Sandra Bullock. The actress wore a triple strand chain necklace from Pomellato when she presented the last award of the evening for Best Picture Drama,. The actress did not walk the red carpet as it is traditional for the big star presenting the big award to be something of a surprise.
Olivia Colman Wears 50:50 Ring
The Crown star Olivia Colman wore a ring that read “50:50 Equal Representation for Actresses.” Her co-star in the Netflix series, Tobias Menzies, wore a pin for the same cause. The jewels represent the movement in Britain to have equal representation of genders in film, television and theater.
The Trend for Men’s Brooches Continued
Men continued to shine on the red carpet in brooches. Ansel Elgort, the star of the forthcoming production of West Side Story, wore a diamond, sapphire and platinum butterfly from Tiffany & Co. Aquaman superhero, Jason Momoa, put on a pin from Cartier with his cool necklace on a cord. Elton John sported a custom-made diamond rocket pin from Theo Fennell honoring the film about his life Rocketman.
Gold Mini Hoops Were All Over the Red Carpet
Several stars styled their diamond treasures in cool ways simply by keeping in the delicate gold mini hoops they wear regularly in their multiple piercings. Sienna Miller wore her gold hoops with Forevermark diamonds. Zoe Kravitz paired hers with 32-carat diamond and jade giant studs by Lorraine Schwartz. Scarlett Johansson accented her everyday piercings with diamond studs from Bvlgari.
