One of several empowering images of women at the Cannes Film Festival walking the red carpet arm-in-arm in elegant protest of the lack of female filmmakers honored throughout the history of the festival. Kirsten Stewart, Lea Seydoux, Khadja Nin, Ava DuVernay, Cate Blanchett, all members of the jury, along with the filmmaker Agnes Varda were at the front of the group showing solidarity for women’s rights in conjunction with the 5050 organization.

There have 1,645 films made by male directors represented.
