One of the highlights of Spring ’19 London Fashion Week was Victoria Beckham’s 10th Anniversary celebration of her label. The festivities got me thinking about the former Spice Girl’s engagement ring story. Over the course of her 19-year-long marriage to David Beckham, he has given her 14 engagement rings. Well, technically they are just rings, but she wears them on the third finger of her left had so it kind of transforms them instantly into engagement rings. David has been giving Victoria a gorgeous new ring almost every year since around 2003.
As I recall from the gossip columns, a couple of VB’s rings might have been gifts after David’s indiscretions, but I am not here for that. They are a super high-profile celebrity couple and they have kept their marriage together through the good times and rough patches. Another thing that is kind of interesting about their union is that they have been in total sync style-wise though all of it. Things start out super youthful and have grown into a sleek stylish place.
See the evolution and get details about the engagement rings, beginning with the proposal piece below.
When Victoria Adams, otherwise known as Posh Spice, met soccer star David Beckham in March 1997 after one of his matches, it was love at first sight. Beckham claims it was even earlier. He says he found the girl of his dreams when he saw Victoria in the Spice Girls video Say You’ll Be There. After 10 months of dating, Becks popped the question at the Rookery Hall Hotel in Cheshire, England, with a 3-plus-carat marquise-shaped diamond on a gold band from Manchester’s jeweler Boodle & Dunthrone.
In a show of girl power, Victoria gave her fiancé an engagement ring too. She asked Van Cleef & Arpels to make one of its women’s gold and pavé-set diamond bands large enough for David. The couple exchanged matching gold Rolex watches to celebrate the occasion. Just over a year later, on July 4, 1999, Posh and Becks were married in a 15th century Irish castle in Dublin.
A couple of years after their wedding, Victoria added a wide pavé-set diamond and platinum eternity band into the rotation with her engagement ring. She wore the jewel on its own with the corset tops and denim she favored during the period.
In 2003, the rings started getting really serious. Victoria began to wear a huge emerald-cut diamond with tapered baguette side stones set in platinum.
David Beckham was thinking pink for his bride’s 30th birthday on April 17, 2004. He gave Victoria a huge oval-shape pink diamond set in a white diamond halo on a pavé-set diamond band.
The pink diamond engagement ring reportedly cost around $1-million. It is believe the ring was purchased at Asprey’s in London.
David Beckham gave Victoria an even more extravagant ring in 2005. He presented her with an epic pear-shape diamond set in a platinum and diamond ring. The jewel is rumored to have set the soccer star back a cool $2-million.
In 2006, David added an emerald-cut yellow diamond ring on a pavé-set yellow diamond band to Victoria’s collection. It has been reported that the ring has a single band and that Victoria wears two yellow diamond bands with the jewel. If it is in fact three pieces of jewelry on her finger, they all match perfectly.
David Beckham started adding colorful precious gems to Victoria’s collection of diamond engagement rings in 2007. Her astonishing emerald is encircled by pavé-set diamonds.
In 2008 David gave Victoria a 15-carat emerald-cut diamond set on a pavé-set ring by Chopard.
In 2009, David gave Victoria a red stone ring that has been reported to be a ruby. It may be another red gem such as a spinel or a rubelite. The stone is set in a pavé-set diamond surround.
In 2010, David gave Victoria an epic sapphire set on a pavé-set diamond ring.
In 2010, David and Victoria’s suddenly shifted in a comparatively subtler direction to smaller stones. He gave her a sweetly sized pink diamond ring. Don’t get me wrong, even though the stone is a fraction of the size of Victoria’s big pink, it is still a pink diamond. In other words, it’s a still a very expensive diamond and a lavish gift.
After a five year hiatus without seemingly any new engagement rings, David was back at it in 2015 when he gave Victoria a large round brilliant-cut diamond flanked by side stones and all surrounded by pavé-set diamonds.
In 2016, David gave Victoria a square-cut diamond ring on a pavé-set diamond band. Again the size was a bit smaller than the gargantuan rings of years gone by.
In 2018 David added another yellow diamond to Victoria’s collection. She has been wearing the square-cut gem on a pavé-set diamond band steadily for months. She had it on at the Dior Menswear collection in June and for her own showing at London Fashion Week on September 16, 2018.
The detail photo of Victoria Beckham’s square-cut yellow diamond engagement ring at the Dior show reveals, well, the more things change the more they stay the same. While many women have given up wearing watches, she likes them as much as she did when she got engaged 10 years ago. She is wearing Patek Philippe’s Nautilus model with a black face.
