Jewels That Stood Out The First 3 Days In Cannes
The French festival of film—and jewelry—is underway
May 17, 2024—The Cannes Film Festival is a fortnight full of red carpets and over the top gowns and jewels. As a longtime critic of all that goes down or should I say up the famous stairs at the Auditorium Louis Lumière where so many of the stars formally announce their presence, I feel the standout styles include something that comes off a little different and unexpected.
See what I mean in the following looks from the first three days of Cannes.
Meryl Streep was in Cannes to accept a lifetime achievement award. The legendary actress showed how to shine on the red carpet and maintain your own personality in a white wrap Dior gown and giant rock crystal, diamond, enamel and onyx earrings by Hanut Singh from Fred Leighton.
Jane Fonda also showed how to look empowered and very much herself on the Cannes red carpet in a Elie Saab beaded pantsuit and leopard print coat lit up by Pomellato diamond jewelry.
Anya Taylor-Joy did not cosplay her role in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Instead she went the old Hollywood glamour route in a beige beaded Dior gown and a Tiffany Blue Book diamond and platinum necklace.

French actress Eva Green who is a member of the Cannes jury, spiced up the look of her giant Chopard yellow diamond earrings with some personal gold earrings in her piercings.
The oversized diamond Chanel star jewelry brought to life the Chanel black sequined number President of the Cannes jury, Greta Gerwig wore on the red carpet.

The curves in the Piaget Luxuriant Oasis emerald and diamond necklace and earrings worn by Aubrey Plaza created a beautiful sense of movement in the designs. While the pieces are new creations from the House, they also had a vintage feeling which matched her white Loewe gown.
Chloe Fineman’s Cartier bib diamond and platinum necklace has a classic look but she gave it a twist by pairing it with a sparkly knotted Celine gown.
