March 3, 2025—Often the Oscar jewelry can be as predictable as who is going to win the awards. But not this year.
In the same way the Best Actor, Actress and Picture categories were up in the air until the very end, there were jewelry surprises on the red carpet. Perhaps the most predictable fact of the evening was all the vintage jewelry that has been simmering as a trend. It came to a boil and I devoted an entire story to it here.
As for the contemporary creations, usually an actor sticks with one label for the season. That wasn’t the case at this crescendo and it was a detail that made the looks surprising. A couple trends from the Season were solidified on the red carpet and a few iconoclastic looks happened. See what I mean below.
For years, Adrien Brody has stood out in Elsa Jin jewelry among a sea of men wearing brooches on the red carpet. Since he hadn’t worn Elsa at the last few award shows, I wasn’t sure if he would at the Oscars. I was delighted to see him wearing the Asian artist’s Wing Brooch.
I think it is this brooch that was created with torn feathers to represent the challenges that people went through during the pandemic. It certainly reflects the difficulties of Adrien’s character in The Brutalist.
If it is the same jewel, the center emerald weighs over 70 carats and there are 170 carats of diamonds. The mounting is titanium, which makes the piece light and a lot easier to wear than it looks.
Musician and one of the stars of Queer, Omar Apollo made a striking debut on the Oscars red carpet in a veil accented with Chopard pear-shape diamond earrings and a black, yellow and brown diamond lizard brooch.
The back jewel trend on the red carpet proved to be here to stay. Margaret Qualley struck a pose in a Chanel diamond tassel design draped down her back.
She paired the piece with Chanel diamond earrings.
Michelle Yeoh worked two of the hottest trends of the moment with Boucheron designs. She swung the Quatre Radiant Edition High Jewelry tie-necklace paved with princess, baguette and round diamonds down her back.
And the Oscar winner sported the extraordinary Plume de Paon ear cuff set with rose-cut diamonds.
Demi Moore was among many who wore a silver metallic dress and diamonds.
Her Chopard jewels included earrings from the Red Carpet Collection set with over 17-carats of diamonds and a diamond bracelet centering on a 20-carat-emerald cut diamond.
There have been a lot of classic chokers throughout Awards Season. Zoe Saldana broke the mold with a cool Cartier Nature Sauvage Panthère Versatiles necklace set with emerald, onyx and diamonds.
Blush was another popular color choice for gowns creating looks that were sweetness and light. Several women including Ariana Grande paired them with diamond necklaces.
De Beers created the Adonis Rose Necklace Ariana wore. It has a pear diamond pendant.
Selena Gomez matched her bejeweled blush gown with a Bulgari High Jewelry necklace set with a pear-shape diamond pendant weighing over 10-carats.
Monica Barbaro wore a Bulgari High Jewelry necklace with a 5-carat pear-shape drop.
If three makes a trend, and it does, necklaces with pear-shape drops are having a moment.
Raye was among the stars who wore red on the red carpet. While chose bold gold vintage designs, the singer went for a diamond Lorraine Schwartz necklace with a 63-carat ruby pendant.
Several women wore velvet with diamond jewels including Isabella Rossellini.
The actress who has been a joy to see all season paired her gown with Bulgari jewels.
Scarlett Johansson accented her velvet gown and gloves with De Beers diamond jewels including earrings and choker set with over 74-carats of diamonds.
The divine Cynthia Erivo paid tribute to the first black woman to win an Oscar, Hattie McDaniel, in her velvet gown she paired with any number of diamond jewels in her signature way.
During the ceremony Ariana and Cynthia brought down the house with a medley of songs.
For the unforgettable moment Cynthia wore a 1997 Vivienne Westwood gown and jewels from Marli New York.
