January 14, 2024—And just like that we are in the thick of Awards Season. Tonight is the Critics Choice Awards and tomorrow evening the Emmys are happening. The Emmys usually take place in September, but the strikes in Hollywood were still on and work was off, so the prestige event was moved to January.
As it relates to the red-carpet jewelry, the back-to-back awards not to mention all the parties and events in between means things can get interesting. When stars go out a lot some begin to calibrate their style and play around. The most fascinating jewels for the Critics Choice Awards veered away from classic into experimental.
As a jewelry critic, these looks are fun to focus on for a change. See exactly what I mean below.
Lily Gladstone has been magnificently styled by Jason Rembert since the launch of Killers of the Flower Moon at the Cannes Film Festival. Throughout it all he has effortlessly and consistently chosen jewels and clothes from indigenous talents to blend with couture and high jewelry. The accessories and attire honor Lily’s background and the theme of the movie.
For the Critics Choice Awards, the actor wore xl Dentalium elk ivory earrings from Elias Not Afraid with a custom Christian Siriano gown.
Natasha Lyonne, who struck an ethereal mode in a Schiaparelli gown at the Golden Globes, shifted gears for Critics Choice.
The actor, who is in complete sync with her stylist Cristina Ehrlich, tossed on a sequin skirt with suspenders and a black tank top as well as a pile of miscellaneous jewelry that looked fabulous and fun. The mix included David Webb among other pieces.
Lenny Kravitz, who has been on the Awards Season circuit for the song “Road to Freedom” written for Rustin, wore a Chrome Hearts cross in true rock star mode. The jewel very likely could be his own because he is a collector.
Then again, he may have borrowed a piece or two to get the perfect accessory for his ensemble. Lenny wore the Chrome Hearts with other personal pieces.
Ayo Edebiri from The Bear, who won over everyone with her charming acceptance speech, Prada dress and Boucheron jewels at the Golden Globes, dressed down by comparison at the Critics Choice.
The actress sported a white suit from The Row and black jade earrings by Lisa Eisner for The Row.
Past Lives director Celine Song sweetly and symbolically sported a Cartier Love motif lapel pin originally designed by Aldo Cipullo for the French firm during the mid-1970s. The piece was inspired by artist Robert Indiana’s Love sculpture.
The director also sported other jewels from Cartier’s Love collection.
Rosamund Pike, who starred in Saltburn, showed how versatile vintage jewelry can be by pairing 19th Century amethyst and gold cannetille pendant earrings from Fred Leighton with a blue sequined dress with a disco days vibe.
The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White instantly became a fashion favorite with his Calvin Klein underwear ad campaign. He is rapidly becoming a jewelry star too. At the Golden Globes, he sweetly carried a gem-set bear from Briony Raymond in his pocket.
For the Critics Choice, Jeremy looked chic in an Elsa Peretti for Tiffany Amapola brooch in gold with a red silk bloom on his lapel.
Rustin star Colman Douglas wore Bulgari gold jewelry.
The actor has been making impactful statements every time he appears on the red carpet and jewelry is always an important part of his look.
I also have no idea who designed the jewelry Matt Bomer wore but the layers of necklaces looked great with his royal blue suit.
The Bear’s Lionel Boyce put several vintage diamond and gem-set pins from XIV Karats in Los Angeles on his cap.
