Did Margot Robbie Get A New Engagement Ring?

She wore a dazzler at the Golden Globes that had us wondering

January 9, 2024—I noticed the giant diamond on the third finger of Margot Robbie’s left hand as soon as I saw her on the red carpet during the Variety live stream. It was impossible to miss. Because she was wearing it on that finger, I wondered is it a new engagement ring?

It’s the kind of situation that calls for a jewelry investigation!

Way back in 2016, when Margot Robbie was still on Instagram, she posted an unforgettable picture of her engagement ring. It blurrily showed her kissing her new husband Tom Ackerley (who is one of the Barbie producers) in the background and flipping the engagement ring bird to the camera. All could see the actor’s sense of humor and pear-shape diamond.

While the diamond, which is believed to be just over 1-carat, may seem small by Hollywood standards, lots of big stars go the more modest route. Jennifer Lawrence, Greta Gerwig and Margaret Qualley all have rings with gems around that range.

You know what is true of all of these women? They wear their rings. Stars who have the bigger stones often leave home without them. Gwyneth hasn’t been seen in her huge sapphire since she got engaged. And Amal Clooney rarely wears her giant emerald cut diamond, but I digress.

While Margot Robbie routinely wears her pear shape diamond engagement ring, over the years she has chosen to put on a splashier jewel for a big event. For the 2018 I, Tonya premiere in Paris she sported several diamond rings on each hand.

At the Oscars last year she didn’t wear anything on her engagement ring finger. Instead, she kept things luxuriously simple with Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings and a ring she wore on her left index finger. The choice was similar to what she did at the Golden Globes.

With this pattern of sporting fancy jewels on her engagement ring finger (or nothing at all on the digit) when she dresses for the red carpet, it seems certain the diamond and pink diamond ring is not a new engagement ring.

If you still believe Barbie has a new engagement ring, there is further evidence to prove it was just a red-carpet prop.

Margot Robbie’s stylist Andrew Mukamal featured her Golden Globes accessories on his Instagram Stories including the Lorraine Schwartz 30-carat diamond studs and the diamond ring she wore on her engagement ring finger.

Margot’s stylist Andrew Mukamal showed the Lorraine Schwartz diamond ring she wore on her engagement ring finger on his Instagram stories. Stylists don’t usually, if ever, cover a star’s personal pieces. They just show the looks they assembled.

The designer Lorraine Schwartz also provided the details of the ring in a press release. She never would have done that if it was Margot’s engagement ring. The total price tag of the 30-carat diamond studs and the 3-carat D Flawless old cut Golconda diamond ring surrounded by Natural Vivid Pink Diamonds is $3-million.

The total for the jewels is a lot, even if you subtract whatever the price is for the studs. I think it’s unlikely Margot and Tom are suddenly going to become splashy in their private life after 7-years of a pretty low-key marriage, but you never know. She might be considering some kind of a new ring in the future and test driving this design for now.
