February 27, 2023—Historically speaking the Screen Actors Guild Awards are one of the more creative red carpets. The actors have been on the Awards Show circuit for a couple of months. They probably have dresses that weren’t quite right or formal enough for other affairs so they wear them to the SAG Awards.
This year I thought it would be more unexpected than usual because the SAG Awards were not even broadcast on television. It was shown on Netflix’s YouTube channel.
The opposite was true. Stars went for real glamour and looked pretty fabulous. Many wore brightly colored gowns and bold statement jewels. Any of the looks below would have been elevated enough for the Oscars.
Lots of stars have contracts with jewelry houses, but few have ever made the labels shine in quite the way Zendaya does working with her masterful style architect Law Roach. The actress picks Bulgari’s biggest baubles and makes the designs look youthful and easy-to-wear. In turn the pieces transform her into a major style star.
For the SAG red carpet, she tossed on a big Bulgari diamond and gemset bib necklace with a stunning pink Valentino strapless dress. The effect was as fresh as her relatively new bob haircut.
Because Zendaya and Law enjoy serving surprises, the star did a quick change from the red carpet to the ceremony.
The actress put on an Armani dress with a Bulgari wide choker. I am not sure anyone else could be as easy breezy in the massive jewel.
Amanda Seyfried was one of several stars who had a mid-20th century mod spirit in her styling.
The actress sported a lime green Prada mini dress with Cartier diamond, emerald, onyx and platinum earrings.
Jessica Chastain has been rolling out Gucci’s High Jewelry collection piece-by-piece at her red-carpet appearances.
For the SAG awards, she wore a great pair of pendant earrings from the collection which debuted in Rome last summer.
Michelle Yeoh sported a Schiaparelli gown with fringe that is reportedly “dividing the internet.” I loved it.
As per usual, she appears to be wearing Moussaieff jewels and a hulking Richard Mille watch.
Angela Bassett lit up her yellow tulle gown with an array of diamond jewels from De Beers.
Her pendant earrings are set with over 21-carats of diamonds.
Jamie Lee Curtis is next door neighbors and long-time friends with jewelry designer Cathy Waterman. She almost always wears her jewelry on the red carpet and the SAG Awards were no exception.
The actress looked sensational in diamond jewels from the designer.
Model and actress Cara Delevingne leaned into the mod trend on the red carpet. She paired a Carolina Herrera jumpsuit, that looked like a gown, with diamond jewels from De Beers.
Her necklace is composed of over 74-carats of diamonds.
Wednesday star Jena Ortega was giving Wednesday goth vibes in a vintage Versace number from the 1990s and a necklace by Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany.
My favorite detail of the styling is the way the Thirty Six Stone diamond, gold and platinum necklace stretched out wide across her collar bone.
Michelle Williams was the picture of mid-20th century Hollywood glamour in a Dior gown and cluster diamond earrings by Tiffany.
The slight quirk in the jewelry was the choice of a pearl necklace. Of course, a simple strand of pearls was never more popular than during the mid-century. It was just unexpected with the action on the neckline and honestly, I like it for that reason. If it was simply a strapless dress the marine gem might have looked dowdy.
You can just tell Jennifer Coolidge loves jewelry by the way she wears it when she appears on the late-night talk shows. The problem on the red carpet is you can’t usually see it under her hair
Well, at the SAG Awards the stylish mod headband she sported made it possible to get a glimpse of her diamond earrings from Niwaka. And her bracelets from the firm also showed up nicely on top of the sleeves of her black gown.
