Giambattista Valli is one of the most beloved designers on the Couture fashion calendar. It’s easy to see why when you get a glimpse of his work. He always delivers collections that are feminine and fun. One thing he has also done with his Fall Couture presentations in the last two years is embellish his sweet clothes with the eye candy that is fine jewelry.
Despite the fact that the High Jewelry presentations have become as much a part of Fall Couture week in Paris as the clothing collections, it is actually a rarity to see the two shown together on a runway. Why? My hunch is that fashion designers don’t want any distraction from their creations. Or worse, they don’t want their clients to use their shopping budgets on a big-time bauble they spot in a show as oppose to a ball gown.
It is clear Giambattista Valli doesn’t have any of these types of petty insecurities. He clearly loves jewelry. He also confidently understands showing a dress styled with some diamonds enhances the look. The jewelry communicates to a client where she can possibly go with a gown when she makes it her own. For his Fall 2018 show, Valli went to Chopard for some mega-watt emerald and diamond jewels. See a selection of the array worn in the show below.
