Jewelry About and For Water

Maria Canale’s water themed collections now have a charitable component

In New York City, we pretty much take water for granted. Turn on the tap and there it is. In California, it’s a different story. After a years-long drought, people conserve it and are deeply aware of its precious value. Other places in the United States, like Flint, Michigan, have water contamination issues. Rural areas in West Virginia and the Navajo Nation don’t have a proper infrastructure for running water like so many poverty-stricken regions around the world.

Jewelry designer Maria Canale has long been aware of the importance of water not to mention its beauty. On March 22, 2019, World Water Day, which is an annual UN observance day, Maria is launching her “Every Drop Counts” charity campaign. The initiative will donate 10% of the proceeds from her Drop and Wave collections to Water.org, an organization that helps provide people with safe and sanitary water.

The Drop Collection is the perfect everyday gold style with a splash of sapphires for color and sparkle. The starting price is around $1,100. The necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings in Wave are a bit more formal. Jewels are set with various shades and sizes of blue sapphires in fluid patterns.

The Big Kahuna of the “Every Drop Counts” initiative is a one-of-kind pair of diamond pendant earrings. A rare pear shape blue-green diamond representing the ocean highlights one of the earrings. A fancy intense yellow pear-shape diamond symbolizing the sun is set in the opposite earring. The earrings cost $550,000. They are a big ticket item that will translate into a hefty donation for Water.org.

“Pure, clean water is the most basic of elements of life, and needs to be available to every human on the planet,” says Maria. “I commend Water.org for undertaking the lofty goal of seeing this become reality,’ and am honored to be supporting their important work this year.”
